JAW SHAPE & MUSCLE TENSION
If you’ve noticed a wider-looking jaw, or you often catch yourself clenching your teeth, your masseter muscles may be part of the picture. We’ll help you understand what’s contributing to your concern and whether a masseter-focused approach is appropriate for you.
ABOUT THIS TREATMENT
The masseters are the strong muscles on either side of your jaw that help you chew. When these muscles are particularly prominent, they can influence the shape of your lower face. They’re also active when you clench your jaw or grind your teeth.
A masseter-focused approach considers how these muscles look and function. It’s part of our anti-wrinkle treatments. Some people ask us about a softer-looking jawline; others first notice that they hold tension in their jaw. We’ll talk through what you’ve noticed, assess the area and explain which options, if any, are suitable.
This is not the same as jawline filler which adds volume.
WHAT IT HELPS
If the width of your lower face is partly due to prominent masseter muscles, an appropriate treatment may create a softer-looking jaw shape. It won’t change your bone structure, and it isn’t the same as adding definition with jawline filler. Your natural anatomy plays a big part in what change is possible. Clenching and teeth grinding are more complicated: they can have several causes, and jaw muscle treatment isn’t a substitute for dental care. If you grind your teeth, have tooth wear or experience persistent jaw pain, we may recommend speaking with your dentist so the cause can be properly assessed.

FAQS
It may soften the appearance of a jaw that looks wider because of prominent masseter muscles. It won’t change the underlying jawbone or necessarily make a difference if your jaw shape is mainly due to bone structure or other factors. We’ll explain what appears to be contributing to your lower-face shape before discussing any options.
That depends on why you’re clenching or grinding. The masseters are involved in both, but grinding can also be linked to factors such as stress or sleep problems. If you’ve noticed worn teeth, tooth sensitivity or ongoing jaw discomfort, a dentist is the right person to assess those concerns. We can then discuss whether a masseter-focused approach has a place alongside that advice.
No. Masseter treatment focuses on the jaw muscle, while jawline filler adds volume to shape or define the area. Someone wanting a softer-looking lower face may have a different goal from someone wanting a more defined jawline. We’ll help you understand the distinction so you can explore the option that fits what you have in mind.
If a prescription-only medicine is considered, it must be prescribed following an appropriate assessment; it isn’t automatically suitable for everyone. We will organise this assessment for you and if suitable can treat you.
